Grumpy's Greens in St. Catharines, Ontario

Grumpy’s Greens is a small-scale, organic market garden helmed by Evan Hadley. As an urban farm, we aim to demonstrate that it doesn’t take a lot of land to feed a lot of people. We farm on two small plots: one located in St. Catharines, ON and another in Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON. Our total gardening area is less than 1/8th of an acre. We transform lawns into cultivated land where we grow fresh, super delicious produce at the ultimate local level for our CSA members, farmers’ markets, restaurants, and small grocers. We use no dig, human powered, regenerative agriculture techniques. This means no tilling or heavy machinery, no toxic pesticides or herbicides, and no synthetic fertilizers. We try to farm without the harm. We select our crop varieties based on what has the best flavour, not just the biggest plants and the prettiest colours. We can dig some flare – it just can’t come at the expense of great taste. This season we are proud to celebrate 5 years since we first planted our seeds in 2020.
